Safe Haven Baby Box
Mehlville Fire Protection District is proud to provide a Safe Haven Baby Box at our House 2 location found on Telegraph Road, offering a safe, anonymous option for parents in crisis to surrender their newborns. Mehlville Fire is the FIRST Safe Haven Baby Box location in the state of Missouri. This life-saving resource is designed to ensure the safety of infants while giving parents a compassionate and judgment-free way to seek help. Located in a secure area of our firehouse, the baby box is temperature-controlled and equipped with an immediate alarm system that notifies first responders as soon as an infant is placed inside.
The Safe Haven Baby Box is a critical tool for preventing abandonment and protecting the most vulnerable members of our community. By allowing parents to safely surrender their newborns without fear of legal consequences, this program provides a path to ensure every child receives the care they need. Once an infant is placed in the box, our team responds immediately, ensuring the baby receives medical attention and is connected to appropriate services.
In addition to the box at House 2, Mehlville Fire is excited to announce the upcoming installation of a second Safe Haven Baby Box at our House 5 location. This expansion demonstrates our commitment to making this vital resource more accessible to families in need. Together, we are working to ensure the safety and well-being of every child in our community.
