24/7 Oversight

Essential to the success of MFPD’s commitment to progressive emergency medical care is 24/7 oversight, which allows CCPs to practice up to the level of their certification. The medical direction provided by Washington University EMS is an important component of the 24/7 oversight. All requests for medical direction by MFPD paramedics are handled 24/7 by a Board-certified EMS physician or EMS fellowship physician.

In addition, the District recently restructured management of emergency medical services by promoting 4 CCPs to the new position of EMS Battalion Chief. The EMS Battalion Chiefs provide 24/7 operational and clinical oversight of the EMS system. In addition to implementing the District’s quality improvement programs, the BCs bring expertise and equipment carried only on their vehicle that expands interventions that can be provided to District residents.
